WASHINGTON, D.C.-April 11, 2022: SMI is pleased to announce that Dr. Bret Strogen has joined the firm as a Director. Strogen is a former Department of Defense and U.S Army energy and sustainability advisor, and most recently served as the Director of Research for a leading environmental impact market intelligence and analytics firm.
“Bret has strong a government network and tremendous insights into environmental and energy technologies,” said SMI COO Ken Wetzel. “He will be a great addition to our team as we continue to grow our energy infrastructure and sustainability portfolio”.
Dr. Strogen has held several senior technical, policy, and leadership roles in both industry and government. Bret served as the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy, and Environment, where he led strategic, policy, and programmatic initiatives related to energy performance contracts, utilities privatization, and operational energy. Before joining the Army secretariat, Bret spent five years on the Operational Energy Innovation Team within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Energy, Installations, and Environment—initially as an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow and later as an on-site contractor. Dr. Strogen has also lent his expertise to advisory boards, conference committees and universities, including the National Capital Area Chapter of the U.S. Association for Energy Economics (NCAC-USAEE), Pangea Filtration Technology and the National University of Lesotho.
Outside of the office, Bret is an active council member for the National Capital Area Chapter of the U.S. Association for Energy Economics and is a long-time middle school student mentor with Higher Achievement.
