National Security and Workforce Policy Leader

Former Assistant Secretary of the Air Force with 25+ years of leadership across defense, industry, and nonprofit sectors.

The Honorable Alex Wagner is an experienced defense policy expert who held senior positions in the Pentagon and industry, where he managed portfolios ranging from military recruiting to speeding up the delivery of new technologies to the troops and nuclear weapons strategy.

Wagner most recently served as the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Manpower & Reserve Affairs, where he was responsible for recruiting and retention, compensation, health care and dependent care, and discipline for the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force.
He was previously Vice President at the Aerospace Industries Association overseeing talent development on behalf of America’s most prominent aerospace and defense companies.

Over his career Wagner also served as Chief of Staff to the Secretary of the Army, leading efforts to create the Army Rapid Capabilities Office and the Army Digital Service, and launching the “Hack the Army” cyber defense initiative. "He also held posts in the Office of the Secretary of Defense responsible for policy development related to nuclear, conventional, and autonomous weapons systems.

Wagner is a graduate of Georgetown Law and Brown University and currently serves as an adjunct professor at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.
