Emma Modesitt, Analyst, has worked in policy research and advocacy encouraging clean energy and sustainable policies since 2022. As a member of the University of Sydney’s inaugural Sustainability Program, Emma supports SMI’s clients by conducting research and analyzing matters related to the energy storage industry.

Prior to joining SMI, Emma was an undergraduate consultant for the Environmental Defense Fund, where she researched natural infrastructure, conducted interviews with community leaders, and contributed to data analysis programs. During this time, she also studied and presented research on dark matter-lepton interactions within the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill Department of Physics lab. Before these roles, Emma served as the President of UNC’s Women’s water polo team, where she doubled the number of players and expanded the team’s campus involvement.

Emma holds a B.S. in Astrophysics and a B.A. in Public Policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
