WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 21, 2018: Strategic Marketing Innovations (SMI) announced that Dr. Travis Taylor has joined the Life Sciences practice. Dr. Taylor most recently served as a Policy Officer for the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

“Travis is a tremendous addition to our team,” said SMI’s COO Bill McCann. “He’s not only a respected figure from the NIH and NIAID but he’s also world class expert on infectious disease. He also has experience helping clients secure federal funding.”

In his role as a Policy Officer at NIAID, Dr. Taylor not only served as the expert on foreign Select Agents and Dual Use Research of Concern but also helped with the formulation, development and coordination of extramural research policy. Dr. Taylor previously served as a Scientific Review Officer (SRO) at NIAID where he reviewed applications and proposals for medical countermeasures including vaccines and therapeutics. He also managed NIH peer review panels.

Prior to the NIH, Dr. Taylor held a number of senior scientist positions supporting federal agencies including the Department of Defense, DARPA, National Cancer Institute, USAID’s Emerging Pandemic Threats Program, the Department of Homeland Security, and the World Bank.

Dr. Taylor is also a former AAAS Science and Technology Fellow during which time he served as a Science Advisor for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency.

Dr. Taylor holds a BA in Biology from the University of Southern Indiana and a PhD in Virology from Harvard University.
